Janet's Foss video now online

Just to let you all know a short 50 second video of Jonny and me at Janet's Foss is now online.

Janet's Foss is a waterfall steeped in history - it is said a fairy used to live in the cave behind the waterfall, before the plunge pool became used as a sheep dip by local farmers. This 20 foot fall, near Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales, is also a designated SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) because the minerals in the water deposit on the rock of the fall, meaning that it actually grows outwards instead of eroding back into the cliff (think a stalagmite in a cave) like a normal waterfall would.

The waterfall itself holds special memories for the both of us. We first ran it two years ago, almost to the day, after just one year of paddling. I also did my first ever roll in the plunge pool at the bottom, and we got a one hell of a rollecking off our old college lecturer for being irresponsible and running before we could walk (metaphorically)! Ah, the memories....

Big Water, Big Boats

After an amazing argument (I enjoyed it anyway) about access at the Upper Sprint, Jonny and I along with friends Andy Keen, Bobby G (A.K.A. Bus Stop...?!) and two others went to the Leven, which was stonking. A quick play on the floodgates and then we headed down stream. The river was not its usual self, with holes appearing and features flooding out. Near the end we decided to take 'the grade 2 bimble' past the rhodedendron island, which turned out to have waves the sizes of small cars sending us high into the [holly] trees. A fantastic trip, enjoyed from the comfort of our big boats. A quick visit to Matt and the team at Windermere Canoe and Kayak, and we set off home, grins all round...!

Earlier in the week, Jonny and I, along with Ness [Jonny's better half] and Tiny [the dog] visited Janet's Foss 'Park 'n' huck' special' just outside Malham. At four to five metres it was good fun, and excellent coursework avoidance.

Pics to follow.
